FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I would like to know more about the operation of the organization and the development of its exhibition projects.

Projet commun experiments the collaborative development of arts and culture by bringing together artists, curators and audiences. Work cohorts are formed and each of them develops an artistic proposal and presents it publicly. Meetings take place from time to time between members of each cohort in order to carry out the different stages (knowing each other, developing a concept, producing contents, etc.). The activities' schedule is flexible and adapts to the participants.

What is the role of the public in a Projet commun?

One or more public representatives are part of each cohort to share their ideas. Projet commun wishes to know and integrate the public's vision in order to set up environments favorable to the appropriation and appreciation of arts by a greater number. The organization hopes to contribute to the democratization of culture and to break down the barriers that sometimes arise between artistic content and people. The inclusion of the public is therefore essential to the realization of each Projet commun.

I am in the process of developing my practice as a curator and I am wondering if I can submit my application even if I do not yet have a lot of experience.

Of course, and we encourage you to do so! Projet commun wishes to encourage the entry of emerging artists and curators into the professional environment and into the arts and culture market, and this is why all applications are welcome. Do not hesitate to submit an application whether you have experience or not.

What does the Projet commun programming committee do?

The programming committee's members support the founder of Projet commun in the process of selecting applications. Based on evaluation grids, they choose artists, curators and public representatives to form the cohorts that will develop an artistic proposal and an exhibition.

What are the selection criteria?

The selection of candidates (artists and curators) is based on the originality, quality and relevance of their artistic proposal and/or their approach. Publics representatives may or may not have a connection to arts and culture. They are chosen according to their motivations for participation. Applicants should also demonstrate an interest and a sensitivity in collaborative and inclusive work approaches.

Who runs Projet commun organization ?

Projet commun is managed by its founder, Sarah Turcotte. Although she coordinates all the artistic and administrative activities of the organization, she values collaboration and wishes to involve the members of the programming committee and the cohorts as much as possible in the various decisions.

Is the public presentation of the artistic proposal developed by a cohort necessarily an exhibition?

No. Since Projet commun encourages a diversity of artistic practices, public presentation can take different forms (exhibition, performance, reading, etc.).
